Design of the data-retrieving engine for distributed multimedia presentations
نویسنده
چکیده
To provide the smooth progress of a SMIL-based distributed multimedia presentation, the data-retrieving engine for the player must pre-fetch each object before its playback time. In this paper, a smart data-retrieving engine is proposed, which adopts a retrieval policy named the just-in-time policy. The policy requires the retrieval process of an object to be finished right before the playback time of the object. By converting the synchronization relationship of objects in the SMIL document to the Real-Time Synchronization Model, which simplifies the handling of the synchronization relationship, and considering the network condition, the data-retrieving engine could determine the request time for each object. The engine then makes the request to fetch each object for the ongoing presentation according to the pre-computed request time, and provides the player with proper media objects for smooth playback of the presentation.

متن کاملUser-interaction supported data-retrieving engine for distributed multimedia presentations
Distributed multimedia presentation enables users to view a multimedia presentation in the distributed manner, in which the objects of the presentation are located in remote sites. User-interaction provi des the viewer with convenient viewing styles like fast forward and fast backward for a presentation, but it also introduces complexity to the data-retrieving engine. A smart data-retrieving en...
متن کاملFlexible disk scheduling for multimedia presentation servers
Objects composing a multimedia presentation need to be delivered based on the temporal relationships specified by the author(s). Hence, even discrete media objects (that do not normally have any real-time characteristics) have temporal constraints on their presentations. Composition of multimedia presentations can vary widely. Based on their composition, we can consider three broad categories o...
متن کاملSynchronization modeling and its application for SMIL2.0 presentations
A novel synchronization model namely Extended Real-Time Synchronization Model (E-RTSM) for modeling SMIL2.0 temporal behaviors is proposed in this paper. E-RTSM deals with event-based/non-deterministic synchronization as well as schedule-based synchronization in SMIL2.0. Converting of the temporal relationship of a SMIL2.0 document to E-RTSM is presented. Moreover, design of the E-RTSM-based da...
متن کاملA standard Interactive Multimedia eBook Generator Engine for e-Learning Process
Introduction: Using standard authoring tools is essential to promote E-Learning in teaching-learning process. Learning content in medical sciences often consists of multimedia elements. On the other hand, it is frequently required to revise and update the medical content. Hence, access to the authoring tools that can encompass multimedia elements and allow easy content revision is helpful in e-...
